1.  Next Meeting:

August 16, 2001 at 10:30

Sandy will be on vacation on August 8. She will be back on August 28th.

2.  CCDs, Mosaic, Controllers, etc.

CCDs:

The backplane has gouges about 30 microns in size on it. Sandy and Kirk will take a look at it. Kirk has started putting in the new coefficients, while Terry has put on the bumpers. The holes are in the wrong place, but there is room to put new holes where they are supposed to be. However, because of this, the diameter of the bumpers will not be the same - this will be talked about at a later date.

Mosaic:

Assembly of moly red mosaic CCDs has been started. There are four to go, but they will be finished today. The offset of CCDs is symmetrical; a fax has been sent to Barry Burke. Nine FC CCDs have been probed and all are in good shape. Once we get the aluminum nitrite, testing can begin. Six will be packaged. Six PC Boards are available and two can be used as backups.

Controllers:

The lab controller has not been used for sometime. We are trying to get it reassembled. Two clock generation boards are needed. We have one board working and the other one is failing. Chris Wright has left a message with Bob Leach regarding getting it repaired.

Kirk: It will be two weeks before we have the CCDs to test.

Bob: There is some hardware issues with the science mosaic controller. We have received an email telling us that we have been powering up incorrectly. The sequences are not in conflict with each other. Barry Burke says that there are weaknesses in the chip. Sandy does not want to lose any chips during testing. This sequence has been in use for a year without problems. The testing of the new sequence will begin after the pre-ship review. Possible problems from the way we are currently power cycling:

a) blowing up a chip

b) slowly degrading a chip

Degradation consists of a silicon punch, which results in higher noise over a period of time. The end result of this is to try to avoid power cycling for the time being.

The engineering array should be populated with more CCDs since it is the backup. We have four working lot 9 devices. They should be tested hard before being put in the red array.

The controller has experienced a mysterious power cycle. This is the first time this has happened since the clamps were put on. A good look at the wiring will happen at tear down. Bob is devising a way to log these problems.

3.  Software

Software is running and able to write images in Mosaic format. It can capture and display images in real time.

Air logging and reporting is okay.

All software is running on Celeste and Deitrader.

Grating - This afternoon or tomorrow

Bob: Servo control upgrade to 4 - GUI. A newer GUI is running on Celeste.

The slit mask will be fixed before going into grating.

Molly's cross correlation software seems to be working and she would like to meet with Sandy.

4.  Electronics (Barry)

Schematics are updated.

Ken: slider #5 needs to be redone

50ft. Fiber optic cables are being made.

We are working with the PRM system to fix the relay logic. Only one hour is needed to test. The integrated circuit design is to replace relay logic.

Jack will fix the slider motor.

Carol is finishing the last of the CCD cables. A plan to test is needed. We will begin using it after the pre-ship review.

We are still having the "yellow light problem" with the TV Guider. Thermal duration testing is currently being done.

5.  Optics

Three 2mm filters have been sent to Andover; we will hear back from them by next week.

A filter fabrication plan is needed. Kirk, Dave, and Sandy will meet to discuss this issue.

Dave Hilyard will be gone for two weeks at the end of August.

6.  Mechanical

Nose Area:

Nothing new.

Slit Mask:

Already discussed.

Calibration System:

A part has been made for the quartz. Placing a hand next to lamp for 4 hours tested it. Matt has some ideas:

1. Cords can be moved closer to the lamp.

2. A diffuser can be put in the horn. Sandy would like to look into this option.

"Black masking tape" problem will be addressed at tear down.

FC Light System:

Already discussed.

Cladding:

Nothing new.

Baffling:

The baffling which goes next to slit mask frame needs to be designed.

Glycol Cooling:

Nothing new.

Air system:

Nothing new.

Interface Panel:

A picture of the foam core box that will show comm & AC interface panel can be taken.

Bob needs a jack or connector; Ken will notify Barry.

A manual switch needs to be mounted on the hatch for the install lamps before pre-ship.

Light interlock to forward hatch.

Is there a work light in the nose area? Discussion of hatch lighting is postponed.

Grating System (Jack):

The sliders are mechanically okay, but the limits need to be adjusted. Dean will work on repairing this.

The gurly mounts have been repaired. Testing of the mechanical measurements of the sliders has been done. Cells in and out are being worked on. This will be done before pre-ship.

TV System:

Already discussed.

Flexure:

Measurements on sliders 2,3, and 4 are all within the capture range of the flexure control system.

There is an excursion of 14 pixels in x and 10 in y, 3 in x and 13 in y, 16 in x and 9 in y in sliders 2, 3, and 4 respectively.

Measurements of the mirror grating have been taken. Slider #4 hasn't been running without Servo control. Problems: Same as in y, problem in x has appeared marginally within the capture range on slider 3.

Instrument Trolley System:

Next week we will be ready to move DEIMOS. The locating pads need to be welded. It should be pointed to the same spot or a little downhill.

We need guide rollers on DEIMOS.

We have a hydraulic lift; we need a tripod.

Small modifications need to be made to Vern's tractor.

7.  Alignment

A star needs to be put out in the parking lot tomorrow to make some optical adjustments. Software is not needed for this test. There will be a meeting today to talk more about this.

8.  Testing

Will would like to do some testing over the weekend. FCS spots are needed for Slider #4 before DEIMOS is moved. This needs to happen for slider 2 once it is in place. De will take the FCS images for Slider 4.

There is some talk of restraining issues needed for seismic activity.

9.  Site Report

Greg is not on the phone today. We have designs for the platform and deck.

10.  Web Report (Heather)

Heather is not here.

11.  Shipping/Commissioning

We have secured $22,000 for insurance with a $5,000 deductible.

Containers/Racks:

No progress has been made. Jerry and Eren have been working on kinematics. We need to get going on the racks.

Camera containers are due to ship on the 13th.

Dave is redoing the schedules.

12.  Schedule

The Readiness Review is 3 weeks earlier than the pre-ship review, which is on September 10th. The first light is in February.

Time allocation committees meet in November. We need to go through the checklist before then.
