DEIMOS TEAM MEETING
Date 07/05/01

Attendees: Ken Dietsch, Carol Harper, Jack Osborne, Barry Alcott, Dave Cowley, Sandy Faber, Jerry Cabak, Heather Mietz, Vern Wallace, Matt Radovan, Bob Kibrick, Drew Phillips

1.  Next Meeting:

July 17,10:30 a.m.

2.  CCDs, Mosaic, Controllers, etc.

CCDs:

Jim B. thinks he got us 2 science-grade CCDs from Lot 14. So we will have a full compliment of science-grade ones. Mahalo, Jim!

Controllers:

Bob: 2 video processing boards behaved strangely when analog power is first brought up. He has talked to Chris about it.  However, once it is warmed up and gets through diagnostics, it is okay.  We will deal with this problem at tear down.

3.  Software

Dean: He has debugged slit mask keywords. Now he is trying to get slit mask under keyword control.

Molly is our new intern. She is working on FCS issues. Part of her work is on getting a batch process with the FCS images, which tracks motion and spots.

De and Steve took the beginning of the week off, so things are a little out-of-sync. Steve is still working on DS9. This isn’t finished yet.

Will is working on rotation software. New modifications have been helpful. Carmen, our other intern, is working on Renishaw repeatability. Specifically, she is working on a look-up table.

Will and Bob will be at CARA next week. They will be working with Al Honey.

Greg will check with Hilton on guider software.

4.  Electronics (Barry)

Cables: Carol is still working on CCD cables.

PXL camera – working with NICS on Mithra. There is a versioning problem. Timetable on this is a high priority. Plan of action is:

1.      Lean on NICS for deadline for Mithra

2.      2. By SSC meeting we will need to know if camera and electronics are working. Bob will let Sandy know more tomorrow.

Rewiring continues – cooling, hatch, rotation interlock, temperature sensors, PRM drive signal cable.

PRMs should be installed - Vern is doing the mount – easier job than thought. Then electrical can continue working on it.

5.  Optics

Sandy: all filter glass has been received and measured. It has to be cut down. Dave is still doing gluing experiments.

Kirk and Sandy are still talking to coating companies. It’s almost finalized.

6.  Mechanical

Nose Area:

Modifications took 1 day. All fits now.

Slit Mask:

There has been lots of testing, a couple of modifications, the system seems to work and the masks work in all position angles.

Calibration System/FC Light System:

Matt: Quartz lined with aluminum foil – there is a shadow from the filter wheel cast on hatch. Per Sandy, we need to think about this.

Cladding:

This is still being worked on.

Baffling:

Nothing new.

Glycol Cooling:

Panel rebuilt, in and running now.

Interface Panel:

This is the next panel to be worked on.

Grating System: (Jack)

The new center clamp is built; it is ready for testing (per Jack). It needs to be installed.

TV System:

Already discussed.

Flexure:

Flexure is still at 12 and 12 (slider 3).

Trolley System:

We are beginning to weld parts, and are working on the gear.

Misc:

High bay door –Please pull door hard to close. The new gasket makes it hard to do this. However, if we don’t pull the door shut hard, it will stay open.

7.  Alignment

Having High Bay darkened (so work on during day) has sped things up.

Still need to steer image in x and y.

Per Sandy: coming up:

*Will be taking pictures.

*Need to know 4 flexure compensation spots.

*Fix “y” misalignment, which came up with Slider 2.

Late next week we will start alignment.

8.  Testing

Nothing new.

9.  Site Report

Greg – He was at the summit on Tuesday. They used a radiation sensor to check lamps on LRIS. On the most UV-emitting lamp, personnel could be 1 foot from emitting lamp for 3000 seconds (bare eyes).  Zinc and cadmium are out of range of this sensor. These lamps are not shielded that were tested.

10.  Web Report

Nothing new.

11.  Shipping/Travel

Containers/racks: Eren is working on the rack and container in 3D. Dave wants DEIMOS superimposed on this to see what it will look like.

Crates were inventoried. We are waiting for Hardigg order to come in.

12.  Schedule

Aug 2-3 is the Readiness Review.  On July we will decide if the Readiness Review date is indeed feasible. If it doesn’t happen, it will be 2 weeks afterwards because Bob is out then.

The main project schedule – if the above happens - means that DEIMOS ships in late October. February 27 and 28 is first light.
