DEIMOS TEAM MEETING
Date: 10-05-01

Attendees: Kirk Gilmore, Dave Hilyard, Dave Cowley, Barry Alcott, Jack Osborne, Vern Wallace, Carol Harper, Heather Mietz, Bob Kibrick, Ken Dietsch, Drew Phillips

1.  Misc:

This meeting is small, and its main purpose is to clarify dewar concerns. Everyone will just go around the table.

The next SSC Meeting will be October 16.

Issues: commissioning NIRC 2 and laser project - DEIMOS fits in nicely with October 2001. Keck is resource-limited, so this is the main topic of discussion for the next SSC meeting.

Hilton is head of engineering (at Keck).

2.  CCDs, Mosaic, Dewar, etc.

The purpose of this meeting is in terms of getting the dewar installed. We will talk about all the concerns. According to Dave's schedule, the first light from the dewar is 10/20/00.

Next week Kirk will be checking the condensation on CCDs and wants to know what temperature does it evaporate on. Kirk plans to do this while the dewar is warm - pump down and cool, leave on vacuum, and bring over on Thursday.

He is also doing mass spectrometer tests at -55( C. Kirk will be checking every 5-10 minutes to see how partial pressure of all dewar gases changes. Another option would be if Bob could set up camcorder up on tripod.

On Monday when the dewar is warm, we'll take the x-ray ring off and check backplane to see if we have to shim. We'll also put crash posts (ultimate stops) back on the backplane.

The space between the FC and science device is 500 microns. Matt believes it's better to be closer than further away. Matt will discuss this further with Kirk today.

Per Vern: we need to put the field flattener back on. Dave says we'll do it over here after it is pumped.

The window that is in there now is the test window.

The computer that runs DEIMOS and the detector will be where Andy sits, as well as a closed circuit TV and 2 way radios (need to get).

3.  Software (Bob)

Bob is almost done with dewar software tasks.

Dean is working on running with a hand paddle and is hoping to release to Electronics at the end of this week.

The results of the preliminary noise tests are that no noise is coming from the X translation stage. We will repeat tests today with FCS and will wrap up this FCS testing.

The gain measurements done today on the A side of CCD 4 showed that it's off by factor 2 1/2. Barry is tracking it down with Chris.

The terminator resistors for the VME crate are needed.

4.  Electronics

Barry: We need to get all wiring in place that will be affected by installation of the dewar (the filter wheel stage for sure). Bob says we need to take care of which cables run together by running stage cables through a "vein." Ion pump and umbilical ones need to be kept clean.

The holes that are cut in barrel to allow stage cables to come out are not cut in the right spaces. This will function okay, but it will not be as easy to maintain.

Dave will put color coded stickers on instrument where temperature sensors go so electronics can wire them.

Ken is working with Jerry on the CCD focus. There's chattering on the torque. The reason for that might be because it is sticking, so they're working on it. These tests are to be run cold.

5.  Grating System (Jack)

Jack has been dealing with Keck site visit issues. He ordered the proper bearings (the others were not needle bearings).

6.  Flexure (Vern)

Vern is working on the flexure issues. Vern's data says "part disk, part box", so tests will continue on this.
