DEIMOS TEAM MEETING
Date 08-10-00

Attendees: Attendees: Sandy Faber, Chris Wright, Terry Mast, Dave Hilyard, Jack Osborne, Jeff Lewis, Carol Harper, Heather Mietz, Dave Cowley, Bob Kibrick, Barry Alcott, Matt Radovan, Garth Illingworth

1.  Next Meeting:

August 24th, 2000, 10:30 a.m.

2.  CCDs, Mosaic, Controllers, etc.

Dewar:

**Kirk is not in attendance, but phoned Dave. The mosaic is ready to go in; the earliest is Monday.

The science mosaic was not installed, as there were too many changes to the dewar. The engineering mosaic needs to go in first. We ordered relays and a UPS, but they did not come in until yesterday. There was a fit check of the dewar in DEIMOS, but the electronics box did not fit, so we disassembled and will reassemble it once the dewar has been installed. A procedure should be written up on exactly how to do this, and a dry run should be performed with the engineering array and live CCDs.

We mounted both controllers and the power supply and ran cables from the controllers to the dewar. All fit except the science controller - 2 of the cables were too short. Barry needs to make new connector, and this will take at least a month.

The cold can interfered with the structural steel. 8" was removed. Installation was attempted with the bracket Trent designed, and while it fits into the proper position, it didn't work out well.

Detector/Mosaic:

Bob and Chris' tests would occur no earlier than late Tuesday. The science mosaic is safe in the corner now. Other tests should be performed while dewar is in there, such as running the LN2 line.

3.  Software (Bob)

There is a software meeting this afternoon.

De is working on the GUI and on version synchronization.

Bob just back this morning and is waiting for updates. In terms of the keyword library for the scientific controller, all keywords are in and need to be tested. The hardware is needed to test the keyword library.

The FC library is not yet complete.

"Lickserv" is ready for the next cool-down.

Work continues on the temperature calibrations. 3 calibrations points/diode were made. All have given slightly different results.

De-scrambling-still waiting for all 8 CCD to display for next cool-down.

4.  Electronics

Carol-Web procedures and information is on the website for grating tilt evaluation, Galil torque for grating slide motor, Lantronics configuration and PXL camera, and error codes and how to deal with them.

Grating tilt #3 is ready for software testing. Electronics wants to monitor this remotely.

PFCAM lesson: Bob wants to test the hardware through stages for things that might go wrong electronically to ensure software doesn't "die". New exceptional cases should become part of procedures.

Barry is building new connectors and cables for the short cables.

Ted is building the "star of DEIMOS" - a little more machining is needed, but the lasers are all installed. Ted also re-worked several signal cables.

Ken installed an additional relay rack on the rotation controller (as they ran out of io bits). He also tested the focus and filter, and this information is on the web.

Does Carol have locations of temp sensors? Dave will check/verify and let her know.

5.  Optics

Sandy outlined a tool to determine if there is proper rotation. Dave is doing the optics part.

Calcium Fluoride is done and ready to be shipped to us.

**Still nothing on the Coherent and Cleveland quotes.

6.  Collimator

Dick and Dave started to transversely align the collimator. It moves to ten thousandths of an inch plus or minus 2-1/2 pixels (per Sandy). The dewar issues stopped on this work temporarily.

Jeff is working on a "measuring stick" and then will set it in "Z". Is counterweight too heavy?

7.  Tent Mirror

Mid-next week it's going in. Side A is glass (the real Piezo), Side B is the dummy Piezo.

8.  Slit Mask System

Jeff was working on the form, but the dewar is keeping him from completing it. He estimates it is 60% done, or 5 working days away from completion.

9.  Grating System (Jack)

Jack- used the auto-collimator so alignment is well along. This will continue when we rotate the instrument again.

Grating #1 is installed without linear bearings. It's flat out in front, the clamp is off, and you can now look through the front (at the collimator mirror).

10.  TV System

No change

11. Calibration System/FC Light System

Matt added the color balancing filter. The filter goes in behind the negative cylinder lens at the end of the fiber. He will give Jeff drawings today.

We are waiting for the power supplies. The form factor is unknown, and we need more information on this.

12.  Fiber System

It will take a week to finish.

13.  Filter Wheel

Filter wheel is in DEIMOS now. It needs cover to avoid people using it as a handle.

14.  Structure (Dave)

The segment/angle was removed. Kinematic mounts drawings were sent to Drew. A cable inventory is needed from Barry before next Wednesday.

15.  Alignment

Terry is unsure about the status of fixtures.

16.  Site Report (Greg not in attendance)

The tele-video meeting creates action items for Dave every 2 weeks now. The Hawaii folks are coming Sept. 20-22, and a schedule is needed for them. Dave and Sandy will have one for them by next Wednesday.

17.  Web Report (Heather)

Nothing new

18.  Shipping/Travel

We have an insurance meeting set up and will bring Sandy's items/concerns to the meeting.

19.  Schedule

No long term updates.
